Blood on Carpet

Medium·⏱ 15–25 min
  1. Blot immediately — never rub. Work from the outside of the stain inward.

  2. Pour cold water directly on the stain and blot again.

  3. Apply hydrogen peroxide sparingly (about 1 tsp) and let it fizz for 1 minute.

  4. Blot up the peroxide, then blot with cold water to rinse.

  5. Repeat the peroxide step if blood remains.

  6. Blot dry and allow the carpet to air dry fully.

What you'll need

  • Cold water
  • Dish soap
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Table salt

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Never use hot water — it permanently sets the blood.
  • Avoid rubbing, which unravels carpet fibres.

Pro tip

Enzyme-based carpet cleaners (like Nature's Miracle) are particularly effective for blood because they digest the protein.

⚠ Warning

Test hydrogen peroxide on a hidden area of carpet — it can lighten some carpet fibres.

Always check the garment's care label and test any solution on a hidden area first. StainsGone provides general household guidance, not professional textile or restoration advice.
