Red Wine on Upholstery & Couch

Medium·⏱ 15–30 min
  1. Check the care label: "W" = water safe, "S" = solvent only, "X" = vacuum only.

  2. For W fabric: blot immediately, working inward from the edges.

  3. Mix 1 tsp dish soap + 1 tsp white vinegar in 1 cup cold water.

  4. Apply to a cloth and blot the stain — never pour liquid directly on upholstery.

  5. Follow with plain cold water on a clean cloth to rinse.

  6. Pat dry with a towel and allow to air dry fully with windows open.

What you'll need

  • Cold water
  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Clean cloths

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Never use hot water on upholstery — it can shrink or warp the fabric.
  • Avoid soaking — water left in the padding causes mould.

Pro tip

Microfibre upholstery often responds well to rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) applied with a soft brush instead of water-based cleaners.

⚠ Warning

Hydrogen peroxide may discolor or bleach upholstery — avoid on anything darker than off-white.
