Red Wine on Upholstery & Couch
Check the care label: "W" = water safe, "S" = solvent only, "X" = vacuum only.
For W fabric: blot immediately, working inward from the edges.
Mix 1 tsp dish soap + 1 tsp white vinegar in 1 cup cold water.
Apply to a cloth and blot the stain — never pour liquid directly on upholstery.
Follow with plain cold water on a clean cloth to rinse.
Pat dry with a towel and allow to air dry fully with windows open.
What you'll need
- Cold water
- Dish soap
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Clean cloths
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✗Never use hot water on upholstery — it can shrink or warp the fabric.
- ✗Avoid soaking — water left in the padding causes mould.
Pro tip
Microfibre upholstery often responds well to rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) applied with a soft brush instead of water-based cleaners.
⚠ Warning
Hydrogen peroxide may discolor or bleach upholstery — avoid on anything darker than off-white.
