Pet Urine on Carpet
Medium·⏱ 20–40 min + drying
Blot up as much urine as possible with paper towels — stand on them to apply pressure.
Pour cold water on the spot and blot again.
Mix 1 cup white vinegar + 1 cup cold water + 2 tbsp dish soap.
Pour on the spot, let sit 10 minutes, then blot up.
Sprinkle baking soda generously on the damp area, leave until fully dry (several hours), then vacuum.
What you'll need
- Cold water
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Enzyme cleaner
- Paper towels
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✗Never use ammonia-based cleaners — urine contains ammonia, and this can attract pets back to the same spot.
- ✗Avoid steam cleaning urine before enzyme treatment — heat permanently bonds the proteins to fibres and locks in the odour.
Pro tip
The smell is the hardest part — only enzyme cleaners biologically break down uric acid crystals. Vinegar masks odour temporarily; enzymes eliminate it.
