Berry Juice on Cotton & Clothing

Medium·⏱ 10–20 min
  1. Blot immediately — work from the outside in.

  2. Rinse under cold water from the back of the fabric.

  3. Apply white vinegar + salt (the acid helps break down anthocyanin pigments).

  4. Leave 5 minutes. Apply dish soap and work in.

  5. Rinse cold. Machine wash cold.

What you'll need

  • Cold water
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Hydrogen peroxide (optional)
  • Table salt

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Never use hot water — berry pigments (anthocyanins) set permanently with heat.
  • Don't rub — it spreads the highly pigmented juice.

Pro tip

Boiling water poured from height can blast through berry stains on fabric — stretch the stained area over a bowl and pour from a kettle from about 30cm above.

⚠ Warning

Hydrogen peroxide can bleach dark fabrics. Test on a hidden seam first.
