Grease & Oil on Leather

Medium·⏱ 15–25 min
  1. Blot the excess oil gently — don't press it in.

  2. Apply cornstarch or baking soda to the stain and leave 30 minutes to absorb.

  3. Brush off gently.

  4. If any mark remains: apply one drop of dish soap with a barely damp cloth, work in gently.

  5. Wipe clean with a barely damp cloth, then dry. Apply leather conditioner.

What you'll need

  • Cornstarch or baking soda
  • Dish soap (very small amount)
  • Leather conditioner
  • Soft cloth

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Never saturate leather — it dries and cracks.
  • Avoid harsh solvents.

Pro tip

Leather absorbs oil readily — act fast. Cornstarch left overnight draws out a surprising amount even from set oil stains.

⚠ Warning

Excessive moisture will damage leather. Use barely damp cloths and condition thoroughly after treatment.
